Senior
Biologist Mark Bailey has over 25
years of field experience in the Southeast.
For almost 10 years prior to his work
with CSI, Mark was Terrestrial Zoologist
for The Nature Conservancys
Alabama Natural Heritage Program.
He has extensive experience with rare,
threatened, and endangered amphibians,
reptiles, birds, and mammals. Mark
was lead author on the recently published
(May 2006) PARC Habitat Management
Guidelines for Amphibians and Reptiles
of the Southeast. Mark was subcontracted
to assist in development of Alabamas
Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation
Strategy, chaired the Herpetology
subcommittee of Alabamas Second
Nongame Wildlife Conference, and co-authored
two of the resulting publications.
Mark has written multiple Habitat
Conservation Plans (HCPs) and frequently
works with the Alabama
Forest Resources Center
on large conservation easement projects.
Mark is currently president of the
Alabama
Chapter of The Wildlife Society
and serves on the board of directors
of the Alabama
Wildlife Federation.

Jeff
Holmes is nationally recognized
as a leader in conservation community
for his ability to organize, motivate,
manage, and facilitate large, complex
projects with "cut-to-the-chase"
efficiency. In early 2007, he accepted
the honor of serving as Co-Chair of
the Joint National Steering Committee
of Partners in Amphibian and Reptile
Conservation (PARC). He is also the
Co-Chair of both Southeastern Partners
in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation
(SE PARC) and the Upland Snake Conservation
Initiative of the Gopher Tortoise
Council (USCI-GTC). He is also a co-author
of the SE PARC Habitat Management
Guidelines.
As
Conservation Planner/Senior Field
Biologist for Conservation Southeast,
Inc., Holmes has extensive field
experience throughout the Southeast.
Prior to joining CSI, Jeff worked
first as Zoologist, then as Director
of Conservation Planning with The
Nature Conservancy of Tennessee.
During his five-year tenure with
TNC, Jeff played a key role in the
development and utilization of innovative
conservation planning tools and
protocols both within Tennessee
and throughout the southeastern
United States.

Karan Bailey is Project Manager
and Biologist with CSI. She has
over 10 years of experience as a
biologist working with amphibians
and reptiles. Karan serves on the
advisory board of the Alabama
Rivers Alliance. Her
specific area of expertise is the
federally threatened flattened musk
turtle, Sternotherus depressus.
She recently completed a survey
for this turtle in Smith Lake, Alabama
for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
