With
in-house GIS capacity, CSI is able
to provide mapping services a la carte
or as a component of other services.
GIS mapping is an extremely useful
means of managing habitat data. The
information used for creating a GIS
map comes from a variety of sources.
For example, maps can be overlaid
showing aerial views, roads, boundary
lines, streams, wetlands, land use,
stand management, species occurrences,
etc. Because this information is in
a digital format, it makes analysis
and modeling possible.
CSI incorporates
information collected with our GPS
units which include
Trimble XRS Pro, Garmin V and Garmin
III. Maps are produced with ESRI's
ArcView GIS that allow us to do a
variety of analyses such as calculate
the area of a wetland or, as in the
map shown below, the home ranges of
radio-tracked pine snakes.
